Class Features

All of the following are class features of the Nightbringer of Aluvia prestige class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Nightbringers of Aluvia gain no proficiency with any weapon, armor, or shield. Armor check penalties for armor heavier than leather apply to the skills Balance, Climb, Escape Artist, Hide, Jump, Move Silently, Sleight of Hand, and Tumble, and double the normal armor check penalty applies to Swim checks.

Spells per Day/Spells Known: When a new Nightbringer of Aluvia level is gained, the character gains new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) as if he had also gained a level in whatever divine spellcasting granted him spells before he added the prestige class. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (improved chance of turning or rebuking undead, and so on), except for an increased effective level of spellcasting. This essentially means that he adds the level of Nightbringer of Vesta to the level of whatever other divine spellcasting class granted him access to 3rd-level spells, then determins spells per day, spells known, and caster level accordingly.

If a character had more than one divine spellcasting class that granted access to 3rd-level spells before he became a Nightbringer of Aluvia, he must decide to which class he adds each level of Nightbringer for the purpose of determining spells per day and spells known.

Blessed Darkness (Ex): When a Nightbringer of Aluvia casts any spell with the darkness descriptor, he casts it at +2 caster level.

Eyes of Aluvia (Ex): At 2nd level, a Nightbringer of Aluvia gains darkvision with a range of 60 feet. He can also see through magical darkness to a range of 10 feet with the same black and white vision that darkvision provides. If a Nightbringer already possess darkvision, the range is extended by 60 feet.

Shadow Speak (Su): When a Nightbringer of Aluvia reaches 4th level, he gains the ability to communicate through the shadows of the mind. As a free action, the Nightbringer can whisper short messages to patrons of his deity, and each such creature within 500 feet hears the message as a whisper in its mind. Observers can also hear the words if they are close enough to hear the Nightbringer's actual whispers (a DC 15 Listen check if the listener is within 10 feet of the Nightbringer, +1 per 5 feet beyond that). Shadow speak is a sonic, language dependent effect.

Shadow Step (Sp): Beginning at 5th level, a Nightbringer of Aluvia gains the ability to shadow step. This ability functions like a dimension door (caster level equal to the Nightbringer's class level), but the Nightbringer must be completely in shadow to use it, and may not bring additional creatures. This ability is useable once per Nightbringer level.

True Lies (Sp): A Nightbringer of at least 6th level can reach into a creature's mind and modify its memories as if using the 4th level Bard spell modify memory (caster level equals the Nightbringer's character level; save DC 10 + 1/2 Nightbringer's character level + Nightbringer's Charisma modifier). This ability is usable once per day.

Mind of Aluvia (Ex): At 7th level, the Nightbringer of Aluvia can use the power of his mind to protect himself. He adds his Intelligence bonus (if any) to all saving throws.

Aluvia's Touch (Su): When the Nightbringer of Aluvia reaches 8th level, he is touched by his goddess and becomes shrouded from detection as if a permanent nondetection spell (caster level equals the Nightbringer's class level) were cast upon him.

Minions of Aluvia (Sp): Beginning at 9th level, a Nightbringer of Aluvia gains the ability to summon shadows from the Ether, up to maximum of one per Nightbringer level. The summoned shadows do his bidding for a number of rounds equal to his Nightbringer level. Any shadows they create by draining Strength are also under the control of the Nightbringer, but they vanish along with the summoned shadows when the duration expires. The Nightbringer can communicate with the shadows as if he spoke their language or use his Shadow Talk ability to communicate with them.

Voice of Aluvia (Sp): At 10th level, the Nightbringer of Aluvia can command a creature as though using the dominate monster spell (caster level equals the Nightbringer's character level). This ability is usable once per day and lasts for 24 hours unless ended earlier. Unlike most spell-like abilities, voice of Aluvia has a verbal component.
